POGGIO CENNINA RESORT IN TUSCANY (ITALY)

General Project description

The starting point of this project was the respect of the gorgeous location in Tuscany (between Arezzo and Siena), characterized by luxuriant hills, pure air, quiet woods and historical buildings and monuments (pic 1).

The customer is a very famous Italian Soccer player, who won the World Cup with the Italian National Soccer Team and he chose the location as close to his native city in Tuscany.

The area is one of the most suggestive and appreciated holiday destinations in Italy, ideal to host in a totally relaxed atmosphere all those guests who look for beautiful landscapes, Italian typical organic food and oil and excellent wine.

Due to the beauty of the location and to the history and tradition of the area, the project of the Resort has been studied to become “invisible”, so built completely under the ground level.

Design requirements

The concept of the project took inspiration from the shape of the hills and from the contour lines of the ground (pic 2): we followed the outlines of the hills and used the underground space to create all the rooms of the Resort (3). The final result is spectacular: the harmony of the building with the exteriors is fully accomplished, while the experience and the skills of the designers and the ultimate technology created a perfect matching between the human and the wildlife needs.

The whole structure embrace the tradition of this village, and seems in direct communication with the external environment, taking inspiration from the vineyards, the woods and the Italian Life Taste.

Specifications.

The Resort includes: Reception, Restaurant and Private Club, Wine Bar, Private Cellar, Multifunctional Room. The guests villas are distributed all over the hill.

This Penthouse is very peculiar because is round shaped and distributed in 2 floors, surrounded by beautiful hills in North Italy (pic. 505+439). The two levels are connected by an internal stair and by a lift (black wood door pic. 512) which is directly connected to the private car parking.

This concept wanted to reverse the standard approach with bedrooms on the second floor and kitchen and living below, located on the first floor, so we organized the Penthouse in the opposite way.

The upper part of the Penthouse is completely round shaped with a terrace all over the diameter of the building, giving the possibility to live at 360° the outside space.

It is an open space and everything has been custom made because of this round shape, it was impossible to find round shape furniture and solutions ready on the market.

The surfaces are in brushed and polished lacquered wood (pic .379+484).

We chose a specific solution for the windows, without any separation in the middle (pic. 385): the windows can be open turning on a central pivot, in this way we were able to create a direct connection with the external environment.

An important point is that all the Penthouse is controlled automatically: the owner is a Manager very much hi-tech oriented, so he wanted to have all the systems (floor heating - air-conditioning, LED lightings, curtains, video surveillance, audio, TV, etc.) fully controlled by an automatic system, which can be managed in remote directly with his mobile phone from wherever he is.

We used energy saving systems for all the rooms.

The white floor is made of water based natural resin (pic. 534), and it runs down to meet the bedrooms where we have black wood floor (pic 277).

Also the surfaces of the stairs recall the black and white colors but with different materials: (pic. 361+376)we have white glass and brushed wood colored in black for the walls and white natural resin for the steps, always natural material anyway.

The night area of the house has a paintings gallery because the customer loves art and he wanted to have the same feeling as visiting a museum, so all the lightings have been studied to recreate that atmosphere (pic. 248+357).

The walls are covered by “Marmorino” (pic. 283), which is a 100% natural painting coming from the powder of marble and available in many different shades which give a very dynamic feeling to the space.

All the Penthouse is following the concept of dualism we live in our real life: we used different colour, materials and finishing, black/white, polished/opaque, lights/shadows, like in real life we have up/down, positive/negative, high/low.
