The birth of UAS is based on an attempt of integrating the international design vision and professional experience into China’s reality. The ideal of the firm is to form an institution that creating a territory and approach interweaving academic and professional practice in architectural design field. Mr. Huali, graduated from Yale School of Architecture and having been working in New York for years, has brought dynamic design energy into China with his western education and professional background. Combined with Mr. Yanghongsheng’s more than 20 years local experience and expertise especially on green building technology, the firm has been strengthened by joining of other oversea architects returned from both Germany and US and talented designers from Tsinghua University and Cental Academy of Fine Arts. The firm now has 15 architects and designers, 3 structural engineers, 3 MEP engineers. The firm takes creativity and pursuit for perfection as their core competence. After several years hard working, UAS now has become one of very active and creative design forces in China’s contemporary architectural field. The working goal of UAS is comprehensive: producing interest for the client, creating place for the city, increasing value for the society and setting up a platform for creativity. Design Philiosophy We believe that architecture is a fascinating and effective way to define the life style, and culture of a society. It is also a powerful media to improve our environment and life quality and even realize a social ideal. Therefore, we emphasize multi-value, specificity and creativity in our practice. 1. Multi-value Architecture is a media of art, science, business and culture. We are concerned with this multi-value. We start our idea from an open status and conduct our study with a multi-disciplinary approach. We make judgment with a comprehensive understanding of various points of view from designer, owner, city planner and user. 2. Specificity We consider each project as site specific, event specific, people specific and time specific. On a landscape of globalization, mass production and consumerism, we try to create value by exploring the specific condition and character of each project. 3. Creativity Design is a creative action. We try to avoid preconceived concepts, avoid style. We refuse to make signature architecture. We believe design is a process of exploration. To make architecture we have to keep questioning and there is no ready-made answer.
