　　Energy Efficient Building Envelopes in INDIA Current Status & Challenges

　　Abstract: Recent global focus on climate change and energy efficiency has made a tremendous impact on Indian people, businesses and policy makers. Buildings in the developed countries consume around 30% of the total energy requirement. Hence, the need to develop of energy efficient and sustainable building envelopes cannot be overemphasized. However, this is a complex technical task by any standard. In this paper authors present a comprehensive but brief review of the past and current status of energy efficient exterior building envelopes in India, and the major technical challenges involved in the design of energy efficient sustainable building envelopes. Authors hope that this will increase the global awareness, particularly in the developing nations like India, about the benefits and challenges involved in the development of energy efficient building envelopes.
