Niemenranta小学在一个新建的住宅区附近，周围有独立住宅和其他小型建筑。Niemenranta学校中心是这里唯一的一个公共建筑，分三部分，一个可容纳300名学生的小学，一个幼儿园和一个初中。除了教育意义以外，这里还具有体育、业余爱好、俱乐部和集会等多种公共功能。校园建筑结合了功能和城市规划要求，公共区域周围有砖墙环绕，校园里还有矩形木制围墙。砖砌围墙有利于形成舒适的微环境。学校建筑周围有形状流畅，充满自由气息的围墙，教学楼屋顶也采用了类似形状。教学楼的其他部分小巧隐蔽，教室和走廊里使用了明亮色调的装饰材料，增加了趣味性。

The school center has three parts: the elementary school for 300 students – the project at hand; the kindergarten; and the junior high school. The spatial highlight of the school is the main entrance hall and the public spaces linked to it. The free formed wooden ceiling emphasizes and gives a strong character to these public spaces. Other parts of the building are small-scaled and intimate. Bright colours are implemented to the classrooms and corridors in order to bring playfulness and easy orientation to the building.
