SWITCH-Asia
On June 27th, the SWITCH-Asia Project “Train the Trainers” co-organized its first conference in Beijing on sustainable urbanization, entitled “China Goes Urban: Opportunities for Europe’s Sustainable Solutions”. The conference was held in partnership with the European Chamber in Beijing and the Danish Embassy since Denmark was holding the EU Council Presidency during the first semester of 2012. The half-day symposium featured a remarkable panel of keynote speakers as well as corporate representatives.
The event was officially opened by the European Chamber President Cucino, EU Ambassador Ederer, Copenhagen Mayor Jensen, Beijing Vice-Mayor Chen as well as Director Pan from the Institute for Urban and Environmental Studies (China Academy of Social Sciences) and Secretary General Li from the Chinese Society for Urban Studies. The second part of the event brought to the forefront specific energy-efficient solutions that the European industry has been designing and developing in the course of its own urbanisation and which can be successfully applied to China at present. Spanning from urban planning to water management, from green buildings to district energy-management, an abundant array of European products and systems was presented and was met with significant interest by the Chinese audience, including officials from MoHURD. |
