Technical Leader: NBBJ is seeking a senior project architect to lead the delivery of our work in Shanghai and provide mentorship to our staff with an emphasis on mastering technical design issues. The role of the Technical Leader is first and foremost an integral role within the overall studio leadership team. A Studio Technical Leader must provide leadership, guidance and mentoring for studio project teams as well as a consistent delivery of architectural projects and other contracted design services. A deep understanding and participation in the development and implementation of new delivery methods such as Building Information Modeling (BIM) is expected. Professional Attributes: Experience in large-scale mixed-use projects (office, residential, hospitality and retail) preferred. Project architect experience is essential in order to provide strong leadership within a multi-disciplinary and/or geographic diverse team. Strong general architectural experience with an emphasis in project delivery from design through construction completion, particularly in architectural technology; Experience with digital design tools is preferable; Willingness to consider diverse ideas, collaborate with teams and communicate outcomes is a high priority. Applications: A familiarity with fundamental applications and management of digital design tools; Building Information Modeling (BIM); Guidance through technical planning and document preparation; Knowledge of China based building materials and resources and the integration thereof in specifications and design drawings; Building systems and detail design coordination; Implementation of technical standards; Technical quality control procedures. Responsibilities: Regular engagement with the studio core team and reporting to studio on a weekly or bi-weekly basis; Maintenance of a project-issues list for the ongoing resolution and improvements in technical design; Regular engagement with other studio leaders to assure integration of delivery in alignment with firm brand. Periodic meetings with project teams for technical oversight and quality assurance; Encourage and facilitate collegial participation among studio members to advance improvements in technical methods. Identify opportunities, promote and foster mentoring of staff in technical excellence. Develop and maintain educational programs that inform the delivery of new projects. Additional requirements: Graphic representation, AutoCAD, Revit and other design related computer skills. Project experience and demonstrated knowledge of Chinese material and construction practices as well as planning and construction regulations is required. Strong verbal and written language skills, including fluent Mandarin-English skills (CET-6) or native English are required. Experience: 10-15 years Education: Bachelors or Masters in Architecture.
