| The New York firm of Steven Holl Architects was founded by sole principal Steven Holl in 1976, and has worked both nationally and overseas on a variety of public and private works. The firm has been recognized internationally with numerous awards, publications and exhibitions for quality and excellence in design, including the National AIA Honor award for the new Museum of Contemporary Art in Helsinki, Finland, the 2001 Grande Medailles d’Or, Academie d’Architecture, France and TIME Magazines Americas Best Architect in 2001. The office has extensive experience in the arts (including museum, gallery and exhibition design), campus and educational facilities and residential work. Current and recent projects include the Bellevue Art Museum and the Chapel of St. Ignatius at Seattle University in Washington, the Simmons Hall undergraduate residence at M.I.T. in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the School of Architecture at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Other projects involve master planning, as well as the renovation and expansion of historically important structures, including the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City, Missouri (scheduled for completion in October 2004), the Cranbrook Institute of Science in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the Higgins Hall School of Architecture at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York and the Sarphatistraat Offices in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
